Try these ginger, lime, garlic recipes for their immune boosting powers; read more about immune health and nutrition in my most recent blog post.

The benefits: While each of these plant-based foods has their own benefits they seem to work best in unison.  When used in combination it has been seen that their mixture provides a synergistic, antimicrobial action against certain bacteria types. The same result has not been seen when these plants are used individually. Below are a few recipes for liquids containing these three super-power plants.

The Shot

Ingredients

200g (1 ½ cup grated) fresh ginger root

4 limes

6 garlic cloves

2 Tbsp. local honey

Preparation

Wash lime and ginger well. Juice ginger, lime (whole), and garlic. Stir in honey. Take a shot! The recipe should make about a cup of liquid, take several shots throughout the course of the day.

The Tea

Ingredients

8 inch knob fresh ginger, zest or finely shred

4 cloves garlic, finely minced

Juice of 4 limes

4 tsps. local honey

2 cups boiling water

Preparation

Combine all ingredients into a pitcher or bowl. If preferred, filter out particles (using coffee filter) once you’ve steeped the tea for 5 minutes. Otherwise you can eat all the floating tea bits. Drink up. This recipe makes about 4 cups of tea; reheat and drink several cups over the course of the day.

The Super Water

Ingredients

4 limes

4 garlic cloves

2 inch knob ginger, peeled

8 cups water

Local honey to taste

Preparation

Wash lime and ginger well. Removed the seeds from limes and divide into wedges. Cut ginger into pieces. Add lime (with skin), ginger, and garlic to blender or food processor with 2 cups water; blend until smooth and lump-less. Pour mixture into pot with remaining water and cook over low heat, stirring constantly. When the mixture becomes syrupy remove from heat and let cool. Stir in honey as mixture is cooling. Using fine colander and funnel, pour into a glass bottle or pitcher to store in fridge. Drink a cup or two daily.
